MEET THE TEAM
Pattee executive director
Alana Newman joined the museum in November 2020 as the Pattee Executive Director. She holds a Ph.D. in Classics from the University of Edinburgh and is an experienced professor, art historian and archaeologist.
Prior to joining the museum, Dr. Newman served as an adjunct professor in Classics and Archaeology at Monmouth College and as the director of the college’s Archaeological Research Laboratory and Native American Lithic Collection. She now enjoys having college students intern at the museum.
Her first excavation as an archaeologist was a Native American domestic site from the Middle Woodland period in Nelsonville, Ohio. This experience gave her insight into American prehistory through hands-on experience with the material culture of that period. For a future exhibit highlighting diversity in the museum’s displays, she is eager to use the Warren County History Museum’s collection of Native American artifacts on early human occupation in the region.
Rental & Events manager
Will Best joined the museum is July 2021 as the Rental and Events Manager after starting as the museum's graduate intern in May 2021. Will graduated with a bachelors in Communications from Monmouth College in 2020. He is currently pursuing a masters in Museum Studies at Western Illinois University in the Quad Cities. As a Monmouth Local, Will has been surrounded by his community's history. Will is excited to return to the museum as he assisted his father and his fellow community members in moving the museum’s artifacts to the current location from Roseville in 2008. He hopes to give back to his community by creating exciting and fun events for the museum’s programs and by being a helping hand in all the varied and exciting tasks that occur at a vibrant local history museum.
