MEET THE TEAM

Pattee executive director

Picture
Alana Newman joined the museum in November 2020 as the Pattee Executive Director. She is an experienced professor, art historian and archaeologist and holds a Ph.D. in Classics from the University of Edinburgh.

Her first excavation as an archaeologist was a Native American domestic site from the Middle Woodland period in Nelsonville, Ohio. This experience gave her insight into American prehistory through hands-on experience with the material culture of that period. She is eager to use the Warren County History Museum’s collection of Native American artifacts to create an exhibition on early human occupation in the region with the goal of highlighting diversity in the museum’s displays.

Until May 2021, Dr. Newman will also continue to serve as an adjunct professor in Classics and Archaeology at Monmouth College and as the director of the college’s Archaeological Research Laboratory and Native American Lithic Collection.
